The International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO) is an event that gathers people to combine efforts to fight homophobia. Since its inception in 2003, the International Day Against Homophobia has grown larger year by year. May 17 - chosen as the day of the event because homosexuality was removed from the International Classification of Diseases of the World Health Organization (WHO) on May 17, 1990 - has become the prime moment to remember that homophobia still exists and that we must combat it. If you are a couple at home, you are a couple at Centrelink The Australian Government has introduced same-sex reforms removing discrimination to enable same-sex couples and children from same-sex relationships to be recognised by Commonwealth law. From 1 July 2009 Centrelink will recognise all couples, regardless of sexual orientation or gender of a partner. Partiers in New Orleans are taking one last chance to eat, drink and be merry before Lent. Tourism officials don't believe the economic downturn has dampened the mood at this year's Mardi Gras celebrations, and say that big crowds over the weekend and nearly full hotels bode well for the annual event.
